F-16 88-0488 was assigned to the 4th Tactical Fighter Squadron (TFS), 388th Tactical Fighter Wing (TFW) Hill AFB, UT. The Fighting Falcon was hit by a SA3 on 21 Jan 1991 that exploded behind the aircrafts tailpipe, peppering the aircraft. It could not make it back to its home base in Qatar so it stopped with us at KFIA, where several of us with past F-16 experience performed some ABDR on it to get it back to it's home station in Qatar. The explosion also included damages to the intake, wing root areas, wings and fuel cells.
